Halki is part of a 12 islands complex (known as “Dodekanese”) located on the South Eastern part of the Aegean Sea. Picturesque Halki looks like a studio movie scene. The neoclassic houses are built amphitheatrically around the port of Nimporio, the only part of the island which is inhabited.
There is also the “old village” which has been abandoned many years ago. It surrounds the ancient castle which was built more than 800 years ago to protect the island from the Pirates. The “old village” was characterized as cultural landmark by UNESCO and thus, its architectural integrity is protected. Nimporio falls under the same law therefore all renovations that have been made preserve and maintain the unique character of Halki’s village.
